Guidelines for Authors and Publication Requirements

 

General Information

Al-Nahrain Journal for Engineering Sciences (NJES), is a refereed scientific engineering journal published under the responsibility of the College of Engineering, Al- Nahrain University four times per year. The journal publishes the scientific output of researchers from Iraq and abroad in the fields of architectural, chemical, civil, computer, electrical, electronic, communications, information technology, laser and optoelectronics, mechanical and biomedical engineering as well as in related fields. Papers written in English are accepted and they are subjected to proper evaluation and accordingly classified as follows:

  • Original research papers and papers on novel design, analysis or construction methods of great value to the engineers which include basic and practical results.
  • Short communications or short discussions on papers which have already appeared in the journal provided that texts do not exceed 800 words.

The material of the paper should not violate any intellectual property right of any person or entity and should not contain any subject matter that contravenes any laws and should meet ethical standards applicable to the research discipline.

 

Requirements

  1. All papers submitted for publication should not have been published or being considered for publication or accepted for publication elsewhere.
  2. The papers submitted for publication should be in (4) hard copies (Three of which do not comprise the researchers’ names and affiliations) and a software copy. The text must comprise consecutively numbered pages using double- line spacing on one side of A4 paper (29.7 x 21 cm). The margins should be (2.5cm) for the top and bottom, (3cm) left and (2.5cm) right. For papers written in English, spelling should follow the Oxford English.
  3. The manuscript should include a title and abstract not exceeding 200 words, in both Arabic and English languages. The paper pages should not exceed 15 printed pages for the final edition otherwise the author(s) will be charged 5000 ID extra money for each page with not more than 20 pages in total.
  4. Full name(s), qualification(s), affiliation(s), address(es) and e-mail addresses of all authors should appear just below the title of paper.
  5. Abbreviations should not be used in the title of the manuscript and the abstract except those of the measurement units.
  6. Only standard international units (SI units) should be used.
  7. Tables and illustrations like figures, photographs and drawings should be clear, numbered, titled and referred in the text consequently.
  8. Footnotes can be used to clarify information and in this case footnotes should be numbered.
  9. For the case of short discussions, two copies should be submitted; the title and author(s) of the paper discussed should be indicated.
  10. For the paper to be submitted for publications, 50000 ID should be paid at the time of submission of the paper. Then 75000 ID should be paid after acceptance.
  11. Font description for papers written in English.
    • Title: "Time New Roman" 16pt (Bold) in the middle.
    • Authors Name/Names : "Time New Roman" 12pt (Bold).
    • Affiliations: "Time New Roman" 11pt (Regular).
    • Headings: Capital initial letters size 12pt (Bold) and placed flush to the left hand margin.
    • Sub-headings: Capital initial letters size 11pt (Bold) and placed flush to the left-hand margin.
    • The paper should be written in TWO columns. While the Arabic abstract written at the paper end with single line spacing.
    • Keywords: should be written after the both abstracts.
    • Text: "Time New Roman" 10pt.
    • Equations: Should be numbered in parentheses flush to the right hand margin with dots leading the numbers; a single line blank space should be left before and after the equation. Equations are referenced within the text as follows:

eq.(x), where x is the equation number.

  • Figures and Tables: Should be referenced in bold as follows: Fig.1, Table 1. Figure captions should {Figure ( ):} appear below the figure in small letters size 9 and should be centered above the table {Table ( ):}in small letter size 9; a single line blank space should be left before and after the table heading.
  • References: References should be grouped together at the end of the paper, after the eventual acknowledgement. They should be referred to as they appear in the text by means of square in brackets [ ].

If references are taken from books, give the place of publishing, publishing company, year of publishing, edition and number of pages. e.g.:

J.M.Perry, Chemical Engineering Handbook. New York: McGraw- Hill, 1950, 2nd ed., 1170- 1175.

Volume, issue number, pages and year concerning references taken from periodicals should be given. For example:

  1. Ohashi, N. Kuwaki, and N. Uesugi, " Suitable definition of mode field diameter in view of splice loss evaluation" J. Lightwave Technol., Vol. LT-5, No. 12, pp. 1676-1679,1987.

 

  • Same descriptions should be used for papers written in Arabic but using “Arial” font.

 

Approval and Publication Procedure

All materials submitted to the journal are approved before publication via the Editorial Panel. All papers are refereed usually by two referees chosen by the Editorial Panel. Referees are required to complete a report form within one month and the authors are requested to make a revision within two weeks, which is returned to the referees for reassessment.

At acceptance stage, authors are asked to provide a final electronic copy of the paper that incorporates all the amendments made during the refereeing process.

The minimum time for submissions to be accepted or rejected is about two months. Rejected submissions are returned to the principal author as soon as possible.

When a paper is accepted, it is sent for typesetting. One set of page proofs will be sent to the principal author for checking before publication. The marked proof should be returned to the Journal within seven days.

 

Author(s) Rights

  1. Each author retains the right to use the work for non-commercial purposes and for further research and spoken presentations.
  2. Each author retains the right to use the illustrations and research data in his/her future work.
  3. Only one offprint is provided free for each author. The authors can order offprints at the proof stage at certain rates depending on number of additional copies required and the year of publication.

 

Publisher Rights

The publisher of the journal has all rights for publication in paper, electronic and facsimile formats and for electronic capture, reproduction and licensing in all formats now and in perpetuity in the original and all derivative works.
